The Manufacturing & Automation Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing manufacturing processes and developing advanced automation solutions. This position collaborates with Production, Quality, New Product Development, and engineering to address systemic challenges, enhance production efficiency, and ensure the seamless integration of new processes. The role requires strong expertise in manufacturing, robotics, control systems, and a commitment to adhering to ISO 13485 and GMP standards.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Design and improve manufacturing processes for high-quality medical device components, leveraging statistical analysis and lean principles. Develop and enhance automation solutions, including robotics, vision systems, and material handling systems. Evaluate and recommend equipment and suppliers to support manufacturing projects. Create and manage engineering change requests and establish standards for new or changed processes. Provide training and support to ensure the successful implementation of new or updated processes. Implement design for manufacturability (DFM) and drive continuous improvement efforts. Evaluate new equipment, conduct FAT, and validate equipment using IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols. Design and integrate electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems for automated systems. Develop control software for PLCs, PCs, HMIs, servo motors, and industrial test systems. Lead the integration and programming of robotic and vision systems. Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, ensuring reliability and performance. Partner with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure smooth transitions for new products and processes. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards. Promote a culture of safety, adhering to GMP and ISO 13485 standards. Implement and uphold safety protocols for equipment and processes.
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in analytical and problem-solving techniques, including statistical analysis and DOE. Expertise in automation technologies, including robotics, vision systems, and control software. Experience with developing control systems, including programming and troubleshooting PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMIs. Proficiency in SolidWorks, CAD software, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with developing electrical schematics and modern automation hardware best practices. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). 5+ years of experience in manufacturing processes and automation systems, preferably in the medical device industry. Experience with injection molding, robotics, vision systems, small-part assembly, and pad printing. Formal training in robotics (Fanuc preferred) and vision system integration.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
