Senior Commodity Buyer

Where we need you

  • The Senior Commodity Buyer reports to the Director Procurement xxx. While the Director has a high strategic focus as well as high management responsibility, the Senior Commodity Buyer has a more operative focus. In comparison with the Senior Category Buyer the Senior Commodity Buyer focuses more on supply chain aspects and therefore is responsible for the following tasks:
  • Executes global commodity strategies in order to meet or exceed requirements regarding cost, time, and quality (incl. SCM risks)
  • Drives RFx from start to decision
  • “One Face to the Supplier” – Responsible for communication to Suppliers regarding commercial topics – escalation level for other stakeholders (e.g. logistics, R&D)
  • Owns relationship to key suppliers and cooperates to develop them into strategic partners
  • Sourcing and Tendering: Identifies and selects vendors to supply parts and products for defined Material Groups
  • Market knowledge about products of the commodity xxxx
  • Responsible for planning and execution of price negotiations, incl. change management activities, commercial target setting and achievement
  • Scouting of innovations (technologies/ supplier), delivering market input to the internal strategic planning departments
  • Supplier Management and Development: Works closely with SQM to develop suppliers
  • Acts as internal Interface for R&D Projects
  • Can be nominated as Project Buyer for complex project where a coordination within Procurement (between the commodity buyers) is needed
  • Compared with the Commodity Buyer the Senior Commodity Buyer is working more independently, has a higher level of experience and has a higher range of responsibility.
  • Identifies savings initiatives within the commodity and drive prioritized initiatives
  • Identifies and selects suppliers to procure products for defined Material Groups, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality. Develops suppliers to strategic partners for key components.
  • Obtains and analyzes quotes to determine best value, then recommends global sourcing solutions based on total cost of ownership and data and facts collected
  • Takes lifecycle responsibility for affected parts of the Material Groups - from strategic sourcing (commodity strategies, managing Rfx processes and nomination, etc.), operational procurement (identification of needs, POs, etc.) to supplier management (contract management, performance management)
  • Negotiates pricing and terms, creates and owns scheduling agreements, nomination letters and POs globally for Parts from Material Groups
  • Ensures compliance to corporate sourcing policy and procedures

This is applicable to the departments of development, production, management, logistics, and after market services, as well as to contact with customers and suppliers. Managers and supervisors are also responsible for the quality of his/her team's performance and how said performance impacts the environment, safety, and data security.
  • This principle of comprehensive quality management is developed and furthered through training (on the job), continuing/ extended education, as well as continued supply of information and updates, and should be exemplified by supervisors on every level.
  • Knowledge of customer specific requirements (CSR) necessary through advanced training, or work experience or a combination of the two.
