The person in this role will develop, test, and optimize PLC, HMI, vision, and robotic assembly, test, and material handling systems for the purpose of improving Safety, Quality, Cost, and Customer Responsiveness metrics. We are a medical manufacturer for assemblies and molded components using a variety of equipment. All areas conform to ISO13485 along with GMP. The Controls Engineer works closely with Production, Planning, and Quality Assurance personnel to improve existing processes and flawlessly launch new processes.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Design or assist in specifying and Integrating Electrical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic Control Systems Hardware for Automated Assembly, Test, and Material Handling Systems.
  2. Lead controls efforts towards project execution meeting budget and schedule.
  3. Design Control Software for PLCs; PCs; Industrial HMI’s; steppers; servo motor controls; industrial test systems; etc.
  4. Design for Manufacturing (DFM) including diagnostics for floor personnel.
  5. Lead effort for Robot and vision system integration and programming.
  6. Participate in training program for other team members.
  7. Works collaboratively with other Engineering team members and personnel from other departments.
  8. Ensure all systems are designed to meet necessary codes, regulations, and standards.

  9. Experience developing manufacturing processes for medical devices. Preferred experience with injection molding, small part assembly, welding, robotics, automation, vision systems, and pad printing.
  10. Ability to develop electrical schematics.
  11. Deep knowledge of best practices and modern automation hardware.
  12. Participate on meetings with modeling and simulation of different options prior to specification decision.
  13. Ability to participate in Statement of Work development for new projects.
  14. Ability and Desire to learn new skills, take on new challenges, and develop your career into a leadership position.
  15. Completes other tasks as required.

Education and Experience: BSEE with Controls focus. 3 years in a manufacturing environment. Formal robotic training, Fanuc preferred. Formal vision system integration training. Physical Requirements / Work environment: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Manufacturing environment for plastic based medical devices, requiring PPE and GMP gowning.
